Preview: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Chalmette Owls
The Ponchatoula Green Wave will head out on the road to face off against the Chalmette Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Louisiana (Ponchatoula is ranked 48th, while Chalmette is ranked 59th).
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Ponchatoula, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 31-13 loss to Hammond. Ponchatoula has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Chalmette had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 35-6 win over West Jefferson. Chalmette might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Chalmette's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Williams, who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Ethan Couvillon, who threw for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
With Ponchatoula's loss and Hammond's victory, both teams now sport identical 5-5 records.
