Basketball Game Preview: Bowie Bulldogs vs. Austin Maroons

The Bowie Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Austin Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Bowie took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Akins, posting a 64-26 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Austin entered their tilt with Cornerstone Christian on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 51-43 win over the Warriors. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Maroons' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Warriors are ranked 100th).

Bowie better keep an eye on Jillian Shirk. She was instrumental in Austin's win, putting up 15 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. That's the most boards Shirk has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Foley Anderson, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Austin is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Bowie, they pushed their record up to 18-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Everything went Bowie's way against Austin when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as Bowie made off with a 64-39 victory. Does Bowie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Austin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
