Basketball Game Preview: Gainesville Red Elephants vs. River Ridge Knights

The Gainesville Red Elephants will head out to face off against the River Ridge Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Gainesville ended up a good deal behind Lanier and lost 67-53. The Red Elephants have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Gainesville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jaucelyn Smith posted 23 points. Smith continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shailyn Jones, who earned ten points.

Meanwhile, River Ridge waltzed into their match on Friday with 22 straight wins... but they left with 23. They put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 62-38 victory. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 games by 21 points or more this season.

River Ridge's win bumped their record up to 26-1. As for Gainesville, their loss dropped their record down to 14-12.

Gainesville and River Ridge were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2017, but Gainesville came up empty-handed after a 54-53 defeat. Can Gainesville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
