Palm Harbor University will be up against a hot Newsome squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Newsome walked away with an 8-3 victory over Sarasota on Friday.
Allyson Conner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Emily Grooms and Sarai Nicholas did most of the damage at the plate: Grooms scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Nicholas scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave Grooms a new career-high in runs. Addison Dresser also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Newsome kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sarasota only managed three hits.
Meanwhile, everything went Palm Harbor University's way against Sickles on Friday as Palm Harbor University made off with an 11-3 win. Considering the Hurricanes have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ella Gill made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Gill was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Shipley, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mylie Stout, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Palm Harbor University, bringing their record for this year to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Newsome, their record now sits at 6-3.
Newsome's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. Newsome has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Palm Harbor University, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Newsome continue to outrun the ball?
Newsome couldn't quite finish off Palm Harbor University when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Newsome avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
