Baseball Recap: Roxana Gets the Win

Roxana gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out the Springfield Senators 7-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Shells.

Trevor Gihring tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Caleb Wonders was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Max Autery also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Roxana pushed their record up to 13-3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Springfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roxana will face off against Civic Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Springfield, they will challenge Granite City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
