Basketball Recap: South Cougars vs. Salina Central Mustangs

South lost against Salina Central back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The South Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Salina Central Mustangs. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Humphrey, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 15 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Willcox, who posted 11 points.

It was another big night for Kamryn Jones, who went 7 of 15 en route to 17 points and three steals for Salina Central. Jones' morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Grant Ostmeyer, who scored nine points and five rebounds.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Salina Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

South will head out on the road to take on Haysville Campus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Salina Central, they will challenge Andover at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Salina Central has won four straight at home, while Andover won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
