Baseball Recap: Yorba Linda Drops Season-High Score on Murrieta Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yorba Linda). They blew past the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks 20-3 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won three games in a row.

Pierce Werner looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Nathan Schneider was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Yorba Linda's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Owen Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Yorba Linda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Yorba Linda's record now sits at 5-7. As for Murrieta Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yorba Linda will host Heritage at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Yorba Linda's pitchers better be ready for this one: Heritage has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Murrieta Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roosevelt at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
