Basketball Recap: Box Elder Takes a Loss

Box Elder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 60-37 to the Northridge Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-35 back in January.

Despite the loss, Box Elder still got an impressive performance from Jocelyn Vranes, who posted 14 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Emma Nelson, who earned ten points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Box Elder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Karlee Mayfield continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northridge, going 7-for-15 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and four steals. Northridge is 4-1 when Mayfield posts three or more steals, but 4-11 otherwise. Nini Johnson was another key player, going 6-for-12 to rack up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Box Elder's defeat dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Northridge, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

Box Elder didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-44 victory against Bonneville on the 7th. As for Northridge, they have also already played their next contest, a 36-33 loss against Viewmont on the 7th.
