Baseball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Waterloo Bulldogs

The Freeburg Midgets will venture away from home to face off against the Waterloo Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Friday as neither Freeburg nor Mt. Vernon made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Midgets walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Rams. The Midgets haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Christian Giovando tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Beau Breyman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, Waterloo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 7-2. The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 22, 2017.

Waterloo's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-10. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Freeburg, their record is now 17-14.

Freeburg skirted past Waterloo 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Midgets repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
