Football Recap: Pomona Panthers vs. Mead Mavericks

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Pomona can now relate to. They fell just short of the Mead Mavericks by a score of 21-19 on Saturday. Despite 120 more yards than the Mavericks, the Panthers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Pomona lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ethan Vu, who rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns. Emmitt Munson was another key player, rushing for 72 yards and one touchdown.

Vu was just one part of a punishing run game: Pomona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 222 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Pomona wouldn't let Mead keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Pomona can thank Noah Sanchez and Izaya Hawkins for forcing both of them. Hawkins has been hot, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last six times he's played. Pomona got some further help from Connor Craver: he made 13 total tackles.

Pomona's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Mead, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
