Softball Recap: Chariho Takes Down Ranked Westerly

Chariho faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 8-2 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Adriana Jeannenot made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaelyn Comerford, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Erin O'Leary, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

The win was the fourth in a row for Chariho, bringing their record up to 13-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Westerly, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chariho will take on Stonington at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Westerly, they will square off against Ponaganset at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
