The Frankfort Redbirds will take on the Murphysboro Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Frankfort is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Hamilton County on Tuesday. They fell 7-2 to the Foxes. The loss continues a trend for the Redbirds in their meetings with the Foxes: they've now lost nine in a row.
Jenna Deason made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Murphysboro had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Orphans.
Blaire Fox was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Murphysboro got a massive performance out of Macey Alexander, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Alexander has posted since back in March. Brooklyn Campebell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Murphysboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Murphysboro's victory bumped their record up to 14-16. As for Frankfort, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-20.
