Baseball Recap: Carrboro Wins Going Away Against Vance County

Carrboro won the last time they faced Vance County and things went their way on Friday too. Carrboro was the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over Vance County. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Andrew Jones was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Carrboro is 2-1 when Jones allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Carrboro got a massive performance out of Joe Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Smith is becoming a predictor of Carrboro's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Owen Rounsley, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Carrboro has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Vance County's loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Carrboro will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Cedar Ridge at 5:00 p.m. on April 7. As for Vance County, they will take on Louisburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vance County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Louisburg has averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
