Football Game Preview: Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats vs. Carterville Lions + How To Watch

Anna-Jonesboro is 2-7 against Carterville since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Anna-Jonesboro has given up an average of 45.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Anna-Jonesboro is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They had to suffer through a 61-22 loss at the hands of Frankfort. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-8.

Anna-Jonesboro's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chris Wright, who rushed for 82 yards and one score on only six carries, and Carson Smith, who rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown. Wright got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 73 yards.

Meanwhile, Carterville put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 28-7 margin over Murphysboro. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Red Devils are ranked 242nd).

Carterville's victory bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Anna-Jonesboro, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Anna-Jonesboro couldn't quite finish off Carterville when the teams last played back in October of 2023 and fell 28-25. Thankfully for the Wildcats, Brandon Cline Skelcher (who threw for 240 yards and four TDs on only 17 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
