Baseball Game Preview: Vela Sabercats vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas

For the second straight game, Vela will face off against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest. The Sabercats will face off against the Javelinas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Vela is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Sabercats in their matchups with the Javelinas: they've now won nine in a row.

David An looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Derek Rodriguez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Vela is 3-1 when Rodriguez posts two or more runs, but 10-13 otherwise. Joe Maldonado was another key player, earning one RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases.

Vela kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Vela's victory bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, they are on a 13-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
