The Monrovia Bulldogs will square off against the Greencastle Tiger Cubs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monrovia has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Greencastle will come in with four straight wins.
Indianapolis Lutheran hit Monrovia with a six-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs lost 13-3 to the Saints.
Monrovia saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gauge Tolan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Greencastle made easy work of North Putnam on Friday and carried off a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tiger Cubs, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Bryton Gregg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Trevin Long was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Treyten Clark, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Greencastle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Putnam only posted an OBP of .250.
Greencastle pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monrovia, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monrovia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greencastle struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
