Baseball Recap: Mechanicsburg Victorious

Mechanicsburg came out on top against Northern York on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Wildcats took their match against the Polar Bears 11-6. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 5-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Eli Reider made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Drake Dawson and Luke Bencivenga did most of the damage at the plate: Dawson got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Bencivenga got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs. That's the most RBI Dawson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nick Patrick, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Mechanicsburg and bumps their season record up to 12-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Northern York, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.

Mechanicsburg and Northern York should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Wildcats will challenge Greencastle-Antrim at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (94 vs. 212). Meanwhile, Northern York (ranked 133rd) will meet Dover (ranked 581st) at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
