Borders Came Up Big in South Caldwell's 21-20 Loss

While South Caldwell might've come up empty on Friday, Landon Borders wasn't going down without a fight. Borders turned in nothing short of a gem, rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making eight total tackles.

South Caldwell is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. Borders and South Caldwell will be playing in front of their home fans against Alexander Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Bryce Johnston Makes It Two for South Caldwell

Keeping Borders company is Bryce Johnston, a fellow South Caldwell player. He picked up two sacks, made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss), and defended two passes. He is on a roll when it comes to defended passes, as he's now defended at least one in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

For the season, Johnston has averaged 9.2 total tackles per game and for the season has 7 sacks. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he was only averaging 0.17 defended passes per game. This year he is averaging 0.67 defended passes.

The second Alexander Central player making an appearance here is Jeremiah Whitaker, and for good reason. He rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 73 yards.

On the season, Whitaker has run in 6 touchdowns while averaging 95.7 rushing yards per game. He is looking even better than he did last year: after six games last season, he was only averaging 6.17 rushing yards per game.
