Brandt Schmidt posted a new career-high in strikeouts on Monday. As a matter of fact, he produced his best game of the campaign: he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
