Volleyball Recap: Pender Starts off Right with Win over Fairmont

Pender took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:two sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The final score came out to 25-17, 32-30, 29-27.

Jensen Bordeaux went supernova, getting 38 digs, six kills, and three aces. Those 38 digs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eden Gurganous, who had 27 digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Pender was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Several Golden Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Layla Hunt, who had three digs and three aces. Jerrian Taylor was another key player, getting 14 digs and two assists.

Looking ahead, Pender will face off against Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fairmont, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Purnell Swett at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
