Basketball Recap: Ridge Point Takes a Loss

Ridge Point and Pearland squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Ridge Point had to settle for second. The contest between them and the Pearland Oilers didn't end well, with the Ridge Point Panthers falling 47-32. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while the Oilers are ranked 44th).

Defeat or not, Ridge Point got some senior leadership from Sydney Person and Caitlin Ochuwa. Person went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and five rebounds, while Ochuwa posted seven points and five boards. That was a full 40.6% of Ridge Point's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Pearland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eliece Perry, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Perry is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 11 games she's played. Shiloh Grays was another key player, putting up 13 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Ridge Point is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-19. As for Pearland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 29-7 record this season.

Ridge Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pearland, they will face off against Summer Creek on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
