Softball Game Preview: Nazareth Academy Roadrunners vs. Benet Academy Redwings

The Nazareth Academy Roadrunners will challenge the Benet Academy Redwings at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Nazareth Academy hadn't beaten Marian Catholic on the road since May 3, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Roadrunners sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Spartans. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 26, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, Benet Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Warriors.

The team relied heavily on Alaina Rosner, who went 3-for-6 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Margaret Carr was another key player, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Benet Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Nazareth Academy pushed their record up to 13-11 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Benet Academy, their record now sits at 11-14.

Nazareth Academy suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Benet Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Roadrunners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
