Baseball Game Preview: New Mexico Military Institute Colts vs. Gateway Christian Warriors

The New Mexico Military Institute Colts will challenge the Gateway Christian Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. New Mexico Military Institute's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Gateway Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

New Mexico Military Institute had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but East Mountain put an end to it on Tuesday. The Colts fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 3-2. The Colts' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Gateway Christian waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Coyotes 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Ethaniel Wigley looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Gateway Christian pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-6.

Everything went New Mexico Military Institute's way against Gateway Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, as New Mexico Military Institute made off with an 8-1 win.
