Softball Game Preview: La Crosse Logan Rangers vs. Onalaska Hilltoppers

The La Crosse Logan Rangers are taking a road trip to challenge the Onalaska Hilltoppers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

La Crosse Logan came up short against Holmen on Tuesday, falling 9-2. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

La Crosse Logan saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Schmitz, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Schmitz also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Onalaska waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Riverhawks 9-0. While the Hilltoppers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The result came thanks to Sydney Kraus 2028's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jenna Gansen 2025 was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Lauren Pica 2027 was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.

Onalaska's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for La Crosse Logan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

La Crosse Logan beat Onalaska 12-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
