It was a good run, but Shawnee Mission Northwest unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to the Mill Valley Jaguars 53-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Cougars came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Jaguars are ranked 197th).

Shawnee Mission Northwest's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Mill Valley, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Shawnee Mission Northwest will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Shawnee Mission South on February 7th. Mill Valley will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Olathe East on February 7th.
