Softball Recap: Analy Comes Up Short

Analy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 9-9. They fell 4-0 to the Cardinal Newman Cardinals. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Carlee Maddocks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Analy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Jurek, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

As for Cardinal Newman, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Cardinal Newman's side, not much got past Izzie Kunimune, who gave up just six hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Analy off the board.

Coming up, Analy will take on Rancho Cotate at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Cardinal Newman, they will square off against Bishop O'Dowd at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
