Recap: St. Michael the Archangel Warriors vs. Trinity Christian Gryphons
The St. Michael the Archangel Warriors entered their tilt with the Trinity Christian Gryphons with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. St. Michael the Archangel pulled ahead with a 33-32 photo finish over Trinity Christian. The win was all the more spectacular given St. Michael the Archangel's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Trinity Christian is ranked 93rd).
St. Michael the Archangel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anjalia Bryant out in front who scored ten points along with five steals. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Janaye Martinez, who scored five points along with 21 rebounds and six blocks.
St. Michael the Archangel has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Trinity Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Michael the Archangel will take on Christchurch School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Christchurch School will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Trinity Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Oakcrest at 5:30 p.m. on January 24th. Oakcrest and Trinity Christian are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
