Roosevelt had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-7 to make it five. They lost 18-8 to the Conrad Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Tuesday.
Jesus Gaspar was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Braylon Merchant was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
As for Conrad, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.
On Conrad's side, Edgar Chourio made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Chourio a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kevin Graterol, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Willians Perez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Looking ahead, Roosevelt will be playing in front of their home fans against North Dallas at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Conrad, they are taking a road trip to challenge Kimball at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
