Volleyball Recap: Laney Takes a Loss + How To Watch

If Laney was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of New Hanover on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Buccaneers lost 3-0 to the Topsail Pirates on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost five in a row.

While Laney was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Topsail's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-12, 25-22.

Elisabeth (Grace) Johnson paced Laney's offense, picking up six kills. Johnson got some help from Abigail (Abbey) Hendren and her 13 assists. Natalie Dickerson controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Among those leading the charge was Hannah Gates, who had four digs and four aces. That's the most aces she has posted over her last nine contests.

Laney's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Topsail, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Laney does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Topsail, they will head out to square off against Hoggard at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
