Softball Preview: Griffin Bears vs. Harris County Tigers

Griffin hasn't had much luck against Harris County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Griffin Bears will venture away from home to challenge the Harris County Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Griffin will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Starr's Mill, who they hadn't topped in nine consecutive meetings. Griffin blew past Starr's Mill 13-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bears.

Bella Daniel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in October of 2023. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Griffin got a massive performance out of Hannah Bufford, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Arlajha Tomlinson, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Griffin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, while Harris County put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Callaway. Everything went Harris County's way against Callaway as Harris County made off with an 8-0 win.

Lani Dansby and Linsley Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Dansby scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Brown went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Huckaby, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Griffin is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Harris County, their record is now 15-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Griffin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 stolen bases per game.
