Baseball Game Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Neshoba Central Rockets

The Quitman Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Neshoba Central Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Quitman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Quitman is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Union on Tuesday. They came up short against the Yellowjackets, falling 12-2. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Quitman saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor King, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. King is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stole at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Neshoba Central beat Choctaw Central 6-3 on Saturday. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

With the loss, Quitman broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.6 runs. As for Neshoba Central, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Quitman suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Neshoba Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can Quitman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
