Basketball Game Preview: Mineral Wells Rams vs. Brownwood Lions

Mineral Wells is 0-10 against Brownwood since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Mineral Wells Rams will be playing in front of their home fans against the Brownwood Lions at 5:40 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mineral Wells comes in on four and Brownwood on eight.

Mineral Wells is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Windthorst: they outscored them in every quarter. Mineral Wells enjoyed a cozy 51-37 win over Windthorst on Saturday. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Trojans are ranked 934th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mineral Wells' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emery Boswell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 boards. That's the most points Boswell has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaylee Newman, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, Brownwood took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 57-29 victory over Marble Falls.

Brownwood is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Mineral Wells, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.

Mineral Wells came up short against Brownwood when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 36-25. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brownwood's Hannah Deen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards.
