Flag Football Game Preview: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Desert Sunrise Golden Hawks + Official Tickets

The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will square off against the Desert Sunrise Golden Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Desert Sunrise took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Salpointe Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Salpointe Catholic's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 victory over Nogales. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by 23 points or more this season.

Salpointe Catholic found their leader in freshman Isla Collins, who rushed for 83 yards, and also threw for 77 yards and one touchdown. Collins also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making two total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Another player making a difference was Lilly Mann, who threw for 132 yards and a pair of TDs.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Desert Sunrise's offense. They took a blow against Eastmark on Thursday, falling 35-0. While losing is never fun, the Golden Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona flag football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Firebirds are ranked ninth).

The win made it two in a row for Salpointe Catholic and bumps their season record up to 10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Desert Sunrise, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.
