Softball Recap: Mt. Shasta Takes Down Hamilton in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Mt. Shasta had no trouble coming through when it counted. They skirted past the Hamilton Braves 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Emily Pigoni spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kaira Rekhi was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaley Lanier, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mt. Shasta pushed their record up to 13-11-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hamilton, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Coming up, Mt. Shasta will challenge East Nicolaus at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Hamilton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
