Basketball Recap: Pioneer Comes Up Short

Pioneer lost against McAllen Memorial back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pioneer Diamondbacks took a blow against the McAllen Memorial Mustangs, falling 81-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Diamondbacks have suffered since November 22, 2024.

Despite the loss, Pioneer still got an impressive performance from Muhamed Shaath, who went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Shaath's evening made it ten games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Pioneer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Pioneer has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for McAllen Memorial, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-45 loss against McAllen on the 21st. McAllen Memorial has also already played their next matchup (against Sharyland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
