Homestead has gone a perfect 4-0 against Gunn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mustangs will welcome the Titans at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Homestead has four straight victories, Gunn has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Homestead was able to grind out a solid win over Los Altos, taking the game 6-2.
Mackenzie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Gutierrez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cierra Hagan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Gunn fell victim to Wilcox and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 12-0 to the Chargers.
Homestead pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Gunn, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.
Gunn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Homestead has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Gunn, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Homestead's sizable advantage in that area, the Titans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Homestead took their victory against Gunn in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 20-9 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
