With a playoff win on the line, University rose to the challenge on Thursday. They blew past the Monrovia Wildcats 21-1. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Carson Cruz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Sophia Weinberg and Gidget Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Weinberg went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Smith went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Weinberg has posted since back in March. Jessica Hu was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

University always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monrovia only posted an OBP of .304.

University's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-10. As for Monrovia, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15-1.

Coming up, University will square off against Coastal Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Conquerors will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. Monrovia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
