Silverdale Academy has gone a perfect 3-0 against Walker Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Seahawks will take on the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Silverdale Academy 1.7, Walker Valley 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Silverdale Academy and Notre Dame had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Seahawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Fighting Irish an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Airebis Cox, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Jaliyah Whitaker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Silverdale Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notre Dame only posted a batting average of .067.
Meanwhile, Walker Valley came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Hurricanes.
Olivia Presswood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Vanessa Byers was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Amy Benson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Walker Valley pushed their record up to 24-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Silverdale Academy, their record is now 20-4-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Silverdale Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Walker Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Silverdale Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Walker Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 4-0. Will the Seahawks repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
