Baseball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Vikings vs. Lehi Pioneers

For the second straight game, Pleasant Grove will face off against Lehi. The Vikings will head out to challenge the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pleasant Grove's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Lehi's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pleasant Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Lehi, who was ranked 16th at the time (Pleasant Grove was ranked second). The Vikings skirted past the Pioneers 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted against the Pioneers since April 5, 2017.

Keaton Nordick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, R.J. Wilson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Pleasant Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Lehi, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-9.

Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pleasant Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473.
