Basketball Recap: Soldotna Drops Highest Score of Season Against Kodiak

There's no place like home for Soldotna, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They greeted the New Year with with a 53-37 victory over the Kodiak Bears. The Stars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Soldotna got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Hope Hillyer out in front who went 7 of 11 en route to 15 points along with five boards and four steals. That's the most points Hillyer has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Laurel Johnson, who posted six points along with 11 boards and five assists.

Soldotna smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Soldotna's victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-2. As for Kodiak, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Soldotna beat Kodiak by a score of 63-28 on Saturday.
