Baseball Game Preview: Coconino Panthers vs. Poston Butte Broncos

The Coconino Panthers will head out to take on the Poston Butte Broncos at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Coconino will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Tuesday. Coconino came up short against Paradise Honors, falling 15-9.

Corbin Derr made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Ty Sevier also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poston Butte). They never let Peoria get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Thursday. The Broncos not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20, 2024.

Not much got past Isael Aguilera, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Peoria off the board.

At the plate, Cordd Baker was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ricky Aguilar, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Coconino has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-3-1 record this season. With the win, Poston Butte broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3.

Coconino might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Poston Butte when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can Coconino avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
