Basketball Game Preview: Williamstown Yellowjackets vs. St. Marys Blue Devils

Williamstown and St. Marys are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but not for long. The Williamstown Yellowjackets will host the St. Marys Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Williamstown easily dispatched Ritchie County last Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Williamstown fell just short of Wheeling Central Catholic by a score of 51-48 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, St. Marys waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They claimed a resounding 77-39 win over the Red Devils. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Red Devils are ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Marys' victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Williamstown, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Williamstown came up short against St. Marys in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 44-36. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of St. Marys' Addie Davis, who went 5 for 12 en route to 17 points in addition to six assists and five boards.
