Football Recap: Cibola Raiders vs. Imperial Tigers
Cibola lost against Imperial back in September of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cibola Raiders were beaten by the Imperial Tigers 48-7. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Carter Rutledge rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 100 yards on 11 of 23 attempts.
Messiah Mais was his top target, picking up 83 receiving yards.
A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Jayden Ayala and his top target Deren Hueso. Ayala threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns while Hueso rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. A healthy portion of that aerial production (83 yards to be exact) went to Mario Gaxiola, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Cibola's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Imperial, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Cibola has the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome Layton Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Layton Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Imperial, they will square off against Fallbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Imperial is facing Fallbrook at the right time seeing as Fallbrook is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
