Locust Fork and Oneonta are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2023, but likely not for long. The Hornets will face off against the Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Locust Fork came out on top against Pennington on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Hornets took their game against the Tigers 8-3. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Braylee Calloway made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Calloway was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shanna Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
While Oneonta didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past Etowah 3-2.
Ali Such spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Briley Aguirre was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Peoples, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
The win got Locust Fork back to even at 1-1. As for Oneonta, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-5.
Locust Fork came up short against Oneonta in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, falling 6-3. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
