After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South County, West Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Woodson Cavaliers with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Andrea Yagui spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, West Springfield got a massive performance out of Kate Middendorf, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Harvey, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
West Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodson only posted an OBP of .280.
West Springfield pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Woodson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.
