Softball Recap: Corbett Comes Up Short

Corbett extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They fell 8-4 to the Warrenton Warriors. The Cardinals were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Bella Austinson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Malaya Cannon-Peterson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Warrenton, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.

On Warrenton's side, Scarlet Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. Anderson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Warrenton let Hannah Leavitt and Natalie Pike run wild. Leavitt went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Pike got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. Those two RBI gave Leavitt a new career-high.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Corbett will face off against rival Neah-Kah-Nie at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Warrenton is set to square off against their familiar foe Valley Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
