The Greely Rangers will head out on the road to face off against the Freeport Falcons at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Greely has seven straight wins, Freeport has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Greely's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Poland 11-0. Considering the Rangers have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gehrig Donnelly looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Greely got a massive performance out of Kyle Soule, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Soule also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Wyatt Soucie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Greely was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poland only posted a batting average of .100.
Meanwhile, Freeport didn't have quite enough to beat Morse on Monday and fell 4-3.
Ben Bolduc was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Greely pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Freeport, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Freeport's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greely hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Freeport, though, as they've only averaged .176. Will they be able to contain Greely's hitters?
Everything went Greely's way against Freeport in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, as Greely made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Rangers repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
