Baseball Recap: Earlville Find Success

Earlville had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 8-9 to make it four. They skirted past the Sandwich Indians 3-2. For the Red Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 21-0 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

James Henne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.

On the hitting side, Earlville's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lane Rohrer, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Sandwich, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-14. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Sandwich's side, Griffin Somlock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. What's more, Somlock gave up only three hits, the fewest he's had since back in April.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Earlville will venture away from home to take on Hinckley-Big Rock at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sandwich, they will challenge Serena at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians are facing the Huskers at the right time seeing as the Huskers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
