Baseball Recap: Williston Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hawthorne last Thursday, Williston came back down to earth. The Williston Red Devils fell 6-3 to the Union County Fightin' Tigers on Friday. The contest marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Anthony Gardea was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Gardea was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. He also put up a double, which washis first of the season.

In other batting news, Breeden Clemenzi made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, Williston fell to 4-1. As for Union County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

The future could be bright for both Williston and Union County: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Williston will try to hand Crescent City their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Union County will look to extend Dunnellon's three-game losing streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
