Venice had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the North Port Bobcats on Tuesday as they made off with a 9-0 win. Considering the Indians have won 11 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on August Backman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Whitlock, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Venice hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Port struck out ten times.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Venice, bringing their record up to 23-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for North Port, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-15 record.
Venice didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-2 victory against Sarasota on the 17th. North Port does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
